Niagra & The Hitmen + The Jim Rockfords live at the Step Inn.

Niagara the amazing pop artist and singer was in Brisbane this weekend and there was no way I was missing that. I've been a big fan of her art since I was a youngin' writing assignments about Niagara for art class in high school when I was 15. I take my lunch to work in a Niagara lunch tin! Niagara does amazing artwork like this...

While I was more familiar with her for her artistic career rather than for her music I still figured $30 was worth shelling out to check out her music for the first time, to see her sing with the Hitmen as well as seeing my friends band The Jim Rockfords who were opening for the night. It was a night of Rock, Punk and Garage! I met up with Bella, Paul, Sam and Mitchy Mayhem who was there to drum for the Jim Rockfords.

The lovely Bella & I.

Mitchy Mayhem!

Paul, Sam & Bella. Mitch and I think these guys should start a band and call themselves 'The Spectacles'. Har har har ... errr.

It was a bit of a strange night because we felt like we were the only 20 something year olds there. Save for a few others that I couldn't even count on my left hand, the crowd consisted entirely of middled aged folks. I mostly noticed the over enthusiastic, sweaty middle aged men who tried to mosh. Oh yes, I forget that about punk gigs. They're rowdy and boisterous and it's a bit intimidating for a little girl like me who likes to watch the band from the front. I had to get a bit feisty and shove away the big men that tried to get in front of me.

The Beautiful Niagara

Niagara was amazing. But I didn't expect any less. I was right up the front, dancing around with Paul and Niagara reached out and grabbed my hand as she sung. Meanwhile I'm freaking out thinking 'Oh my god! Niagara is holding my hand with her beautifully manicured one! Oooooh!' Paul and I swooned over her the whole set. She is such a fox and is still rocking a hot body at 54! Heck. She doesn't look anywhere NEAR 54! I want to look that hot at 54!!!

P.S. Damn. I didn't get a photo of myself in my brand new jeans. Seriously I spent good money to buy high waist extreme skinny jeans in order to wear my cowboy boots without that irritating gathering above the knee, and I can't even show them off in this post. Boo-urns! Until next time folks.

  1. Oh wow, I never knew Niagara was a singer - and so beautiful! Like you, I just knew her from her art (which is amazing; I hope to buy a print someday). Lucky you for getting to see her!

PS Your friend Bella has the most beautiful glasses.

  2. There are even better photos of Niagara on her website. I'm eyeing off her prints too but they set you back a good $300. It's amazing that her original paintings sell for between $3000 - $10,000! I always knew she fronted Destroy All Monsters back in the day but I had never bothered to check them out. I wish I had earlier. It's good stuff if you're into that harder kind of music.

I love Bella's glasses. They aren't even old, she bought those new!
