DimitySO ads in Sydney!

So according to my friends in Sydney my face is all over the city. My friend Mel even went so far to write on my Facebook wall saying 'ARRGH! YOUR MAGNIFICENT RACK IS TAKING OVER THE WORLD.' So of course a handful of our male friends noted that a world ruled by boobs would be a wonderful world indeed. Hah. Typical boys.

Anyway, being in Brisbane I hadn't seen any of this, only heard about it. Tonight however my lovely Sydney resident friend Stephy and another mate Dominic who was down there on holidays, uploaded some snaps for me!

The ad has also turned up in a full page ad of Madison Magazine this month. Page 181! It's the one with the Miranda Kerr on the cover. I've also been told by a friend in New Zealand I'm on a billboard in Auckland. I'm also a facebook ad, various street posters. It's insane! Where will I show up next?

Oops. As you can see I somehow managed crease my own face by accident. I went over to a friend's for wine and cheese tonight and took the magazine to show them, creased as it was. But Fran and Helen got terribly excited when I told them the bras were stocked in David Jones. Fran and Helen have cup sizes of F and H and have previously only been able to buy their sizes online or in wholesale stores that have crazy hours opening hours to the public. I forgot to tell them to go to the city one. The display there is so pretty.

Keep your eyes peeled for Laila and Nat's photos too!

  1. Congrats! If you didn't already know you are also featured in the photo shoot video on their website: http://dimityso.com/video/

Also, I think its funny and appropriate that the first advert is below a sign that says "Fruit". :D

  5. i HAVE to walk past you every day just outside my building to get to the bus stop which youre on the side of.

sorry did i say HAVE to...

well, at least i havent started camping out there

    youre simply stunning

also like that youre into retro/vintage, i am too, in fact as im writing this im listening to Stray Cats!

  6. It seems I am unavoidable in Sydney :D Good thing you like it though. I'd hate to be an annoying picture you can't get away from. Heh.

Excellent! You must go to the lovely events down there like the 50's fair. Did you go and see the Stray Cats when they toured last year?!

  7. unavoidable, but certainly NOT unpleasant

ill let you know when its enough....

Sadly i didnt see Stray Cats, my sister (who lives in melbourne) and i wanted to be in the same town and go together as we're both into the same music, but we couldnt make it happen :(

The sister said something about our age (im in my late 30's, she 2 years behind me)and getting hammered in the rockabilly mosh pit! and with aspbergers i wasnt going alone here in sydney.

Still i have the Stray Cats "Rumble In Brixton" DVD (and the BSO - Brian Setzer Orchestra DVD's), so i didnt totally feel bitter about missing them when they were playing here, i stayed in and watched the DVD's the night they were playing...

btw the first thing i noticed in the ad were the tattoos...they rock

if i were going to get a tattoo i would prolly go for the timeless and iconic hula girl, im a rockabilly/surf guitar/guitar instrumentals nut

My fave track of all time: 1959's Sleepwalk, by Santo & Johhny

and thats prolly enough about me lol

why didnt i leave things as "love the ad" :)

  8. WORLD IN CRISIS!

I knew that the universe would hit back at me for my fawning comments and personal life overshare, and it has, and in a troubling and quite unacceptable way...

I arrived home a little while ago and was witness to a sight that is bound to leave a chasm in my life, a chasm whose dimensions are not yet fully realised...mainly because its only been 30 minutes since i walked past the contractor who does the bus shelter signage and came to the awful realisation that he had changed the ads.

Youre now missing from my particular locale.

I briefly considered taking off one sock and making a cosh with coins and beating him to death, but in the end it was highly impractical as i only had 1 x $2, 3 x 20c and 1 x 50c coins on me.

I briefly considered asking him for the poster, but thats the talk of stalkers, and im not of those kind of freaks. Certainly a freak, but an almost respectable one.

The limit of my freak mind at this point is to get people to geotag your posters and keep a small staff on hand to monitor them 24/7 and plot their location and status on a googlemap. I entertained this thought briefly as a vital service to others out there, the few, but dedicated...and weird?, lest a little part of their world go dark, as mine just has :( :)

Theres nothing to be done now, the only place in the city that has the poster will likely be DJ's, and lord knows im not going in there.

Dont they realise this is far more important piece of artwork than that stuffy old Mona Lisa?
Ideally im purely a Tom Roberts/Constable landscape man and normally consider anything else an existentialist wank....

Going cold turkey now, have to consult some Hunter S. Thompson to see whats to be expected of withdrawals. Oh wait, he never actually quit anything...

    This is grim

Oh well, have to face this thing head on, grin and bear it

Maybe ill just join the church of scientology, its the only way i can see to totally and wholly shift my focus....

Good luck for the future, ill be with Tom, Katie and baby Suri talking about Xenu a lot and holding metal cylinders for no good or scientifically valid reason.

Theres got to be another way.....

Hmm wonder if DimitySO will sell me one.....

  9. Oh well. It wasn't bound to last forever. Arg, you should have asked him. No, it's not stalker-ish. I would have asked! Having a free giant poster of my own face would have been novel, I suppose.

I wonder if anyone in the city has drawn anything on me yet? :D ... Maybe I don't want to know?

Aha! Another fan of surf. Fantastic music that.

  11. (aka stylemessiah)

Lol. i was a bit worried about that last post, i half considered deleting it, it was tre' freaky, but then thats me.

I tend to get a bit manic when there's a change in my sphere..a change in temperature, wind direction, bus posters, fluctuating derivatives.

Showing restraint at not asking him for the poster must mean ive a nominally normal cerebral cortex, incompatible with your typical stalker thought processes. Wow self examination in a public forum, classy. Still its all insight and i refuse to use netmedic. I'd rather trust an audience of random blog readers.

Im surprised you havent got one of the posters, being the subject and all...if i was you i'd get right on that.

As far as i can tell, you havent been defaced, and there were 3 posters of you on one of my regular bus routes, and the 2 remaining ones are pristine. Who would ruin THAT poster, you'd have to be barking mad.

As for surf, is 7a.m. too early for Dick Dale?
Hmm maybe i could go for something that would better alienate my neighbours...Black Sabbaths "Faeries Wear Boots", it has the perfect repetitive and montonous riff for just this purpose, a riff that would make even the Da Lai Lama go postal.

    Anyways, im outie....

p.s. talking about surf music, have you heard of the bambi molesters?

    http://www.thebambimolesters.com/

    who new croatians liked surf?

    p.p.s. http://tukshoes.com/

  12. Freaky? No. Sugar high? Yes :D

Haha nice to know I haven't been defaced. I see people do awful things to bus shelters up here. Moreso in the derro areas though. Figures.

No! Nothing better to waking up to Dick Dale. It's one way to energise yourself in the morning (note: I am not a morning person). I'm lucky that my neighbors and I have somewhat of an understanding. They put up with my music and I put up with their noisy parties every now and then. It's all good.

No I haven't heard of the bambi molesters. I don't know whether to be intruiged by the prospect of a new surf band to listen to or appalled by the name. I am after all a huge bambi fan. Oh well, might as well check them out and take the name as tongue in cheek. Hey if Turks can play ska, Croations can play surf!

Mmm TUK shoes! Don't tempt me! Love the shoes. Hate their shipping fees.

  13. Lol, derro areas...

I wonder if where i grew up qualifies? Springwood.,..southside...20 years in the 4127...represent.

At least its not Ipswich. I could mention other suburbs but it could get ugly lol...

I havent sighted you in nearly two weeks now, not that anyones counting, but i have an inbuilt ability to chart disappointment.

Withdrawals. I may have to go into the devils dressing lair, DJ's

Im no morning person either, ideally my people believe one should never set eyes on the sun.

I have a wicked moon tan though.

Okay, given your fondness of Bambi, maybe the molesters was a bit much, but how about Los Straitjackets? Their gimmick is mexican wrestling masks...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Straitjackets

Id point you to their website, http://www.straitjackets.com/ but its strangely sporting a "domain suspended" message...

Just saw the collectors and Brian Ritchie, bass player form the Violent Femmes was on, he has a new band with the remaining members of Midnight Oil called The Break, who do Surf....well there was always the hint of surf in the Oils, Wedding Cake Island anyone?

    http://www.thebreak.net.au

As for the TUK shoes, one thing i have learnt in my life, perhaps the only thing i have learnt is that when it comes to shoes, women will find a way.....

  14. I was of the opinion that Springwood wasn't so bad. It just has derro suburbs for neighbours. Am I right?

You may not have sighted me but other people have continued to spot me! So who knows :D I must be still out there!

Mmm moon tan. 'Catching some rays there Flip?'

Yes I have heard of the Los Straightjackets. I've been meaning to download some of their stuff.

  15. Hehe well it works like this, or at least in my life...

If you were poor, you started out living in Woodridge (was derroville) on the other side of the freeway from Springwood. You aspired to live on the other side of the freeway in Springwood because at the time this was where they had all the Mater Prize Homes that you could win, and everything was shiny and no mobs of idiots seemed to roam the streets. Not that anyone i knew could afford to buy the tickets of course. But anyway we managed to make the transition and there was actual sunlight over there...who knew.

Still ill never be exactly welcomed back with open arms at any Springwood State High reunions, i did tend to run amok at school..

At least i didnt grow up in Inala...

As for your continued appearance in Sydney, i want GPS co-ordinates...nah, im fine, really...

Im doing okay in the moon tan stakes, im qute a bit more tanned than your average emo or twilight nerd.

The Straitjackets do mostly original gear, i have about 3 CD's of theirs, but they have a good live version of Surf Rider, which is one of my fave surf tracks of all time

Sadly couldnt find them doing Surf Rider on youtube, but heres them doing Sleepwalk, my favourite instrumental of all time (though the Brian Setzer Orchestra does the ultimate version)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQWei8pCndo

If you look in the right hand list theres also the original Santo & Johnny version, in B&W :)

There plenty other Straitjackets performances on there, including (though i will never click on it) a version of "My Heart Will Go On" lol

  16. I'll see if they are on iTunes because YouTube does evil things to my lack of internet download. Yep. Stuck on a dodgy contract. Waiting until it ends.

    Tic Toc Tic Toc.

  18. Eeek iTunes...i have a pathological hatred of anything to do with Apple...

I share your internet bandwidth and downloads, i rack up my youtube viewing at the local netcafe!

Having a Gene Vincent & His Blue Caps afternoon and wishing you well

    Still no sightings!

  19. Its been a few weeks now, and...

Well, theres no easy way to say this..

Your posters in my neighbourhood have been replaced with posters of Liv Tyler.

Personally i wouldnt give you a quarter for Liv, although im sure shes a nice person.

By way if trying to soften this blow, i offer the following link:

    http://www.imeldamay.com

If you watched the Grammys this year (personally i rarely watch them as they are full of pop music and shit like Lady Ga Ga - so not music, id like to cave her head in personally and end the madness), she did a tribute with Jeff Beck to the great Les Paul of his and his wifes song "How High The Moon". She pre-recorded about 4 or 5 harmony parts (Les was after all the father of multitrack recording) beforehand and then sang live to the track at the Grammys.

You'd like her, shes very retro and i love her individual twist to her haircut...trust me its good...

I saw in an interview on youtube that she, along with her husband (Darrel Higham - a rockabilly guitarist, ive had some of his stuff for years) hang out socially with Beck and his wife, and one night they were jamming How High in the kitchen, and when the Grammy people asked him to do the tribute her called her up. Apparently they also go to pub trivia nights together as a 4some lol

Shes Irish by the way, and god bless her doesnt even attempt to shave the edges of the accent when speaking!!

This includes another random drop by

  21. Hmmm Live Tyler is good to look at though. They're not G Star Raw Ads though because they haven't captured her beauty very well in that campaign IMHO.

Oh I LOVE Imelda May. A friend brought the CD to a party my friends and I were hosting. We played it on the stereo and thought it was fantastic. So I'm a proud owner of her Love Tattoo CD :3 She is, indeed, fantastic. Her hair is cute too.

I can watch YouTube now! :D I have better internet now *happy dance*
